Who am I ? Our Actual Identity

Pointing at our body we say 'This is my hand; this is my leg ; this is my head , these are my legs and this is my body ' but who am I ? who is actually saying my? Have you ever analyzed in this way? It is very easy to identify own true self after analyzing in this way.

Scriptures say that the body which is  made up of five gross elements (air , water , earth. fire ,ether) and three subtle elements (mind, false ego and intelligence)  is not our true self . It is ever changing and will be finished along with death. Death really means the end of this body.
Is that tiny existence our real identity? Are we just output of above mentioned physical ingredients? We have to go in depth.
Since our childhood we used to say like ' My hand , My body etc.' but that my feeling was never changed till our youth hood and will remain same till our last breadth. That means there is something which remains unchanged but just passes inside our changing body. If this statement was wrong then the mystery of life must have been already disclosed. If we were just the combination of those physical elements and our identity was no more than this temporary body then we  should have already got the answer of this question ' what element is missing from that body which makes this wonderfully working body to die ( stop it completely). No modern scientist have ever been successful to give its answer in terms of some chemicals. That is clear clue that there is something other than gross and subtle element that has life in it. Scriptures, which are named the words of God give the answer to this mystery in this way:-

"As the embodied soul continuously passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. A sober person is not bewildered by such a change." Bhagavad Gita As It Is 2.13.
Here is the one line answer to our many questions regarding our true identity (ego). According to this Sloka our actual identity is not body but the soul.
Scriptures further point that the soul which is immortal , unborn and ever existing is our true self. It is not the subject of changes even when physical body changes. Our soul remains the same. Soul is just wearing and throwing the outward covering of above mentioned element. The soul is the eternal part and parcel of supreme soul called supersoul. Scriptures point our real self in such ways.
Thus, we have to come outside the bodily concept of our identity. Bodily identification is the subject of changes everytime but our actual identity as eternal soul remains the same forever , as the servant of supreme soul called God.
